RAFW – Ginger and Smart
MAY 03 2010
After teaching us how to fly a kite last year, Sydney sisters Alexandra and Genevieve Smart kept their vision sky bound with their collection The Transcendent. As a beam of light blinded the audience and the sound of a throbbing heart beat grew louder, ethereal models draped in light fabrics breezed past as if just waking from a dream.
Sky tones such as lilacs, blues and grays were contrasted with bursts of brightly coloured prints, helping to build the collection’s energy and momentum. The sister’s knack for fluid fabrics andrelaxed tailoring showed no sign of wavering. Easy summer pieces such as oversized waistcoats, draped pants, jumpsuits and printed kimonos showed theirpotential to dress an ageless market with simple summer pieces.
The mood was relaxed, effortless and above all optimistic. Famous for their artistic prints, this season Ginger and Smart let colour do all the talking, swirling vibrant hues over the body, toning down the brash colours with flex’s of black, nude ruffles and simple silhouettes.
