Style X Travel: Fire and Ice
At the beginning of this year I made the decision to take a step back from online and try my hardest to have my words printed. No easy task considering print media still remains in limbo and although I’ve had some wins and long long waits, it’s been rewarding to see my late night thoughts grace a few pages. While glossies have been my aime for some time now, never did I think the opportunity to pen words for a book would come along, let alone a publication by one of my favourite Australian photographers.
A few months ago the ellusive and insanely talented ‘She Is Frank’ asked me to help her/him (I’m keeping the secret!) with a foreword in the up and coming book Fire & Ice. It’s only a few short paragraphs but at the same time it was still incredibly flattering to be asked by Frank to help capture and summaries the book’s unique concept. The images and words also donned the walls of She Is Frank’s solo exhibition in Melbourne recently, which I was unable to attend as I was still overseas.
Having now seen the book, I can not gush enough about how much I love the striking imagery. I’ve been a huge fan of She Is Frank’s intensely vivid style for awhile now, so seeing her/his take on a new format is really inspiring. Since Frank’s fashion editorials are always so distinctive, it was also interesting to view her/his landscape shots of Iceland. As you can see from the below images the result is incredibly powerful. Overwhelming almost. Each time I turn the page I can literally feel a cold jolt to my chest, which is then eased by images of Simone sweating and sexing it up in the outback. Seriously, that girl is a firecracker.
Copies of Fire and Ice are still available via online but be quick. A worthy addition to any fashion magazine/book collection that you won’t want to miss out on.
